Learn about me
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Classics with an emphasis in Classical Latin and the history of the Roman Republic, with a Minor in Women’s Studies from the University of Oklahoma. I have studied Attic and Koine Greek, as well as German and French for reading. I also hold a graduate level certificate in Educational Therapy from the University of California at Irvine Extension. I have a wide breadth of teaching experience from corporate training, middle school Latin, and homeschooling my own children.
My goal is to build a student’s academic skills and self-confidence by demystifying the learning process and developing their own toolkit for success. To better serve my students, I have trained in multiple modalities. But don’t let all this specialized pedagogy make you think I’m boring and teach with old-fashioned ideas. I enjoy being light-hearted and learning by doing. I modify board games to teach language, math facts, and executive function skills. Puzzles are another way to make learning fun. When feasible I’ll do things like make lemonade to explain ratios or create art projects to illustrate trigonometric functions.
When I’m not working/playing you can find me reading, watching old movies, or spending time with my family walking around the neighborhood. My older daughter lives in Hawaii, so sometimes I need to check on her to ensure she’s applying sunscreen and getting enough rest (wink wink.)
