Zoom is Just Like In Person
Susan was such a lifesaver for our family! We homeschooled our three children during the pandemic, and my middle child (4th grade) was struggling mightily in math, and I just didn't have the tools to help get him back on track myself. She worked with my child over Zoom every week, and was quickly able to assess his skills and gaps, and come up with a learning plan specifically for his needs. He enjoyed his tutoring sessions and was always eager to tell me about all of the games they played and the math "tricks" he learned.
Susan used a variety of physical cards, game pieces, and other manipulatives with a document camera to show her hands. My child really did well with this Zoom adaptation to how I imagine she would work with children in person. She is a master of engaging and excitingly different ways to get young minds opened to understanding math facts.
In addition to the ongoing sessions my middle child had, Susan also did an evaluation and review with my oldest child (7th grade) which helped me be much more confident that he was on track and on grade level. We spoke about my younger child (2nd grade), and while that child didn't require any Zoom meetings, Susan was a terrific resource for what sorts of curriculum to try with her and had some awesome new ideas for math games to play with her that are much more engaging than sitting around with standard flash cards.
At the end of each session, she spoke with me about how my child was doing and always had a new suggestion for online games to play or fun in person ways to review during the week. She was very invested in ensuring I understood what they were doing in their sessions, and she always was encouraging and uplifting in regards to my struggles as a parent trying to navigate through my child's struggles.

Excellent Value
My daughter, who is currently in 12th grade at a private high school, has been seeing Susan for the last six summers. She has done in-person tutoring with our daughter in English Comprehension and Math for 1.5 hours a day, 5 days a week during the summer when we are not traveling. Susan has been a great fit for our family for the following reasons:
1. She is warm and friendly and engaging as a teacher – my daughter looks forward to going to tutoring with her.
2. She can teach across many different subjects using many different modalities including games that make learning fun.
3. Susan has been extremely flexible and accommodating with our scheduling needs.
4. She is reasonably priced – we have worked with many tutors, and she offers excellent value for the rate she charges.
Our family has greatly enjoyed working with Susan over the last six years. We have seen our daughter’s confidence and capabilities grow during her time with Susan.

She Does More Than Math!
I originally hired Susan to help my son with middle school math. Little did I know how much she’d help us in the test anxiety department too! We thought my son just needed to work harder (with support, of course.) But really what he needed was to find his joy again! Susan helped with that. She gamified times tables, fractions, and integers. She gave him the time and the space to see that math can be fun.
Once they developed a rapport and my son felt like he wasn’t behind his peers, Susan addressed his test anxiety. He didn’t worry about tests in other subjects, but he was always stressed about math tests. Once again, through games, Susan was able to show our son the power of YET. He may not be perfect, but he does understand. He may not make 100’s, but tests are just one aspect of his grade. We’ve been saying this all along, but hearing it from a professional whom he trusted was different.
We now send our younger daughter to work with Susan. She couldn’t wait until it was her turn!
